If you are a thrill seeker, the Little Sahara State Park brings off‐road enthusiasts throughout the world to take advantage of our unique sand dunes consisting of over 1600 acres of desert! Waynoka provides top‐shelf amenities for our visitors and a trail going directly into town from the dunes. No need for a car, your ATV is good!
Waynoka, first called Keystone, was founded in 1887 in Indian Territory when the Southern Kansas Railroad built across northwest Oklahoma. From Amelia Earhart to Charles Lindbergh, Lionel Barrymore to Will Rogers, our rich history and heritage is told at the Harvey House and Train Depot Museum. Learn about the BNSF Railway and Waynoka’s part in the Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT).
Looking for unique events? Plan a visit to the annual Waynoka Rattle Snake Hunt and the Cimarron River Stampede Rodeo. We are also just a hop, skip, and jump to other Northwest Oklahoma attractions, such as Alabaster Caverns, Northwest Oklahoma State University, and the Great Salt Plains. Whatever your interests, Waynoka is most certainly your outstanding destination choice!
A prime example of Oklahoma's diverse terrain, Little Sahara State Park boasts over 1,600 acres of sand dunes, ranging in height from 25 to 75 feet. The vast dunes have formed over time from terrace deposits, remnants of prehistoric times when the Cimarron River flowed over the entire area. Located south of Waynoka in northwest Oklahoma, the park offers RV sites with water, electric and sewer hookups, tent sites, picnic areas and comfort stations. All campsites must be reserved online.
The main attraction at Little Sahara State Park is dune buggy and ATV riding across the sand dunes. Visitors can either bring their own ATV or rent one off-site by a private vendor. Either way, visitors will have a blast in this mini-desert atmosphere, known as one of the best riding spots for ATVs in the Midwest.

This 1910 Harvey House and Santa Fe Depot complex houses the Waynoka Air Rail Museum and gift shop. The Waynoka Air Rail Museum is located on the BNSF main line with 50 to 100 trains passing through daily. Exhibits here feature the Transcontinental Air Transport (forerunner of TWA), Santa Fe Railroad, Fred Harvey and artwork. Feast your eyes on a large model railroad, static diesel locomotive, foreman's house and display featuring Curtis Hill. Experience a little Waynoka history by touring through these buildings that appear on the National Register of Historic Places. As an added bonus, tour groups may book a guided tour of Waynoka, conference rooms or video presentations.
